Pyjama Day at MLPS
On Thursday 17th of May, Marshall Laing Primary School had Pyjama Day. Lots of people wore pyjamas. The juniors had a programme in different classrooms. Room14 had some sleepover games with room13.
Miss Mackenzie wore her Elmo pyjamas!
‘’It was fun because I have never worn my pyjamas to school before’’ exclaimed
"If I'd known it was Pyjama Day then I'd have worn mine!" said Coach Brian.
"I would recommend Pyjama Day be on a sunny day next time" complained Sharmaine.
"Fun, nervous and embarrassing" stated Satish.

Room14's shared lunch
Room14 will be having a shared lunch on Thursday (5th April). It would be much appreciated if you could send your child to school with a small plate of food to share with the class. Preferably, something healthy would be a good option. For example: bananas, cut up fruit, small sandwiches, popcorn, juice and a few other little treats are allowed too!
Thanks in advance:)

Tessa Duder - Reading Group
Yesterday we read a book about a class of children who entered a 'Kiwi Kids' song writing competition. Today, we wrote songs about sports pretending that we were writing lyrics for a new song.
Here we are working on our songs and poems. Our songs will be published soon!
verse 2: I'm gonna go biking, biking, biking, in the tryathlon. I think I can bet her, I start to edge towards her, oh no it's nearly time to run, YYYYAAAAAAAAYYYY! I bet her.
chorus: I'm gonna go swimming, swimming, swimming, all around. Next I'm gonna bike, bike, bike, with my energy. Last I'm gonna run, run, run, using the rest of my strength.
verse 3: I'm gonna go running, running, running, in the tryathlon. I think I have enough power, I start to speed up, I'm near the end, I sprint more and more, I have won the race. YYYYAAAAYYYY!
chorus: I'm gonna go swimming, swimming, swimming, all around. Next I'm gonna bike, bike, bike, with my energy. Last I'm gonna run, run, run, using the rest of my strength. (Repeat chorus.)
Swimming!
Swimming, swimming is fun, I like to dive but the problem is when I dive my goggles leak so I have had 5 pears of goggles! I like to go swim at the wave pool it is fun because you can go on the hydroslide!

Visting the Botanic Gardens
Here are some recounts about our trip to the Botanic Gardens
On Wednesday the 22nd half of the Marshall Laing School went to the Botanical Gardens. I went to the Botanical Garden because I was learning about sustainability.
I was the photographer. After that we had a class room lesson. We learnt how to plant a seed. We also did some digging. I even saw a worm farm.
My favourite flower was the sharp plants and roses. The rose was red and orange.
I hope it will be sunny the next time I visit Botanical Gardens!

We went to the Botanic Gardens and we took some photos. We took cool and interesting photos. And we explored!
We got to the Botanic Gardens on the bus. Rooms 13, 12 and 14 went. We went on Wednesday.
We planted our own plants and we saw some signs. We learnt that plants need sunshine and water to grow. We saw a bird that was called: Pooh Power. Miss Towers joined our group. We saw beautiful flowers.
What sculptures did we see? Maori statues. Lots because the Botanic Gardens was having a sculpture display.
I spotted an eel in the stream and there was a hat in the pond.

Hey, Guess what? My class and I went to the Botanic Gardens on Wednesday. We went there so we could learn about plants. We went with two other classes and they were Room 14, 11, 13 and 2.
During the classroom lesson we used spades and we also put on gloves. We saw the life cycle of the bean plant. In the forest, we got lost!
I was exhausted as I slowly walked back on the bus.

Our Class Novel
Room 14 are reading a novel called 'Cloud Busting' by Malorie Blackman. It is about a boy called Davey who is new at school. He is different. Sam does not like Davey but then changes his mind. It is about bullying. The whole book is written in poems.
Here are some comments from the children in Room 14.
"Cloud Busting was full of poems. I liked our class novel because it was magnificent. I thought Cloud Busting was amazing because it reminded me of Alex being mean to Davey and this sometimes happens at school."
Athira
"I liked Cloud Busting because it had lots of actions. I thought Cloud Busting was fabulous."
Jayden
"Cloud Busting was a story with poems. I liked our class novel because it had really cool poems. I thought Cloud Busting was about Clouds because of the title but it was really about a friend who had gone and they weren't friends anymore. Cloud Busting was about Alex."
Johnny
"Cloud Busting was entertaining. I liked our class novel because it was interesting and real. I thought Cloud Busting is the best book in the world!"
Basel
"Cloud Busting is now one of my favourite books. It reminded me of Pranav.P. He is one of my best friends, forever! Cloud Busting tells a story about two people who become best friends."
Vraj
"Cloud Busting was an extraordinary story because it made me feel excited, amazed, upset, nervous and happy. I liked our class novel because it was funny. I didn't like our class novel because Sam and Alex were bullies. Af first, I thought Cloud Busting was about busting a cloud but it was actually about a boy called Davey and a bully."
Faiz
"Cloud Busting was amazing and interesting because of the poems. The title reminded me of lying down on my trampoline looking at the sky."
Frisco
"Cloud Busting was interesting because it was a mystery. It was also mindblowing! I learned about an epi pen. The poems were mysterious."
Samardh
"Cloud Busting was amazing and interesting. It was about 3 boys called Sam, Davey and Alex. Sam and Davey were ex friends. Davey told Sam that he had an allergy, he can't eat peanuts. Sam forgot everything that Davey said and he told Alex about his allergy. So Alex gave Davey a peanut sandwich. It was nasty. Davey had an allergic reaction and couldn't breathe and came out in a rash. Mr Mackey, the teacher, came with an epi pen and put in on Davéy's thigh. The ambulance was called. When it came, he was all right. Sam felt guilty."
